Repair Guide -Resins and Finishes

When you repair your composite kayak, it’s important that you use the correct materials, or you may end up compromising the repair. If you need to fix up your Norse sea kayak or Think surfski, here is what you should be using.

Norse Sea Kayaks

Norse use vinylester resin to make their kayaks. If you need to make a repair, use polyester or vinylester resin. Their kayaks use gelcoat on the outside, so use flowcoat for any repairs to the gelcoat. This information is relevant to the fibreglass and carbon construction options. If you need to repair a Norse kayak in the Enhanced Epoxy construction, you need to different materials.

Think Surfskis

Think offer four different constructions (Performance, River, Elite & Ultimate) and all of them use epoxy resin. Any repairs must be done using epoxy resin. The finish on each of the construction options is a polyurethane paint. Paint touch ups, or post-repair repaints need to be done with polyurethane paint. The hull of the River Construction and the Ultimate Construction both use a clear polyurethane paint. If you need to match paint colours, please feel free to contact us for the RAL paint codes for each colour.
